What those coded pieces in the video actually do

You saw the team seat small marker pieces on the implants before scanning. Those are coded scan bodies, and they’re doing the quiet, important work in a full-arch case.

A scan body is a marker the scanner can see. A coded scan body carries a pattern the software recognizes, so it can pin down exactly where each implant sits and how it’s angled straight from the scan data. On a single implant, that’s useful. On a full arch, it’s the whole game. You’ve got multiple implants, and a small error at one position stacks up down the arch until the final bridge won’t seat. The coded geometry is how the software keeps every position honest across the whole case.

Shining 3D’s coded scan body system has a detail worth knowing if you do immediate cases. Per Shining 3D’s support documentation, their screw-detachable kit lets you separate the screw from the scan body, which makes cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing the screw channel much easier after a bloody surgical case. In an all-on-X case with a multi-unit abutment in one arch, you can swap just the screw and keep the same scan body, and the kits use letters and colors so your team can tell them apart at a glance. One caution from that same documentation: the parts contain aluminum, so you steer clear of harsh cleaners like hydrogen peroxide, and you rinse with purified water instead of tap.

The workstation the scan is running on
